DTM

Mercedes driver Lucas Auer defended hard to win the first DTM race of the 2017 season at Hockenheim from ex-F1 driver Timo Glock. Pole man Auer had led comfortably for Mercedes in the early stages, but had to survive a late assault from BMW driver Glock to claim his second win in the series

Mike Rockenfeller was third for Audi ahead of Edoardo Mortara’s Mercedes, and the Audis of Mattias Ekstrom fresh off his World Rallycross win across the way and Rene Rast.

Audi driver Jamie Green then scored his DTM 14th victory in race 2. An early crash saw Green in front of a reformed grid, followed by Auer, Bruno Spengler, Glock, and Ekstrom and despite a 5-seconds pit stop penalty for inaccurate grid position at the restart, he emerged from the mandatory pit-stop Green with a big margin over BMW driver Wittmann, Gary Paffett, and Auer with the top three finishing in that order
