Overseas experience aids first win

South Africa’s European CIK-FIA Karting Academy racer Charl-Michael Visser returned home to Killarney on the weekend, where he made full use of his newfound overseas experience to win his first primary Junior Max heat en route to second overall for the day. Younger brother Kyle meanwhile enjoyed good pace in his double duty primary school Mini Rok and Maxterino outings, but he never quite managed the results he may have wanted.

“My driving in the CIK-FIA Academy in Europe is starting to pay off at home,” reigning SA Maxterino champion Charl-Michael pointed out. “Over there we race in 33-kart fields to qualify to race in the finals, so it’s every man for himself — there is no room for error and it is vital to get on it very quickly and stay on the pace throughout. “Now I am applying a lot of that to my home races and it's working — I won my first Junior race Saturday and now it’s just onward and upward — watch out guys!”

Kid brother Kyle Visser wanted more than he got on the weekend. “I had two very fast Maxterino and Mini Rok karts on Saturday and I picked up a few seconds and thirds along the way, but I was also just at the wrong place at the wrong time a few too many times through the day. “My results were not bad, but they could have been so much better. “Thanks to the whole Charl Electrical Engineering karting team — our time will come!”
