Cape kart star delivers in World Finals

Cape Town kart racer Charl Visser returns from Italy with a spring in his step following a most positive showing in the Junior Rok Karting International Finals, running as high up the field as seventh in the Grand Final at the South Garda Karting Circuit over the weekend, before his kart lost power and he ended up 14th in the world. Younger brother Kyle enjoyed a positive weekend on his World Final debut in Mini Rok before being among the 130 drivers eliminated en route to that 32-kart Grand Final.

“I am absolutely delighted with my weekend,” Charl, who is among the younger competitors in the Junior class at just 13 years old admitted. “I never lost a position throughout the weekend and we made it into the Final quite easily — I was up to seventh on the fourth lap, but my kart suddenly lost power and I could not hold the guys off and ended up 14th in the world in the end.

“It’s a pity, because I was lining up for sixth and I think I could have made up a few more places, but I am very happy with my performance. “I need to thank my folks, Charl Electrical Engineering and Ward Racing for the opportunity to compete here — it’s been a huge year with racing in the CIK-FIA Academy and at home, but I have improved so much as a driver and I can’t wait for the next race at the WP Junior Max Finals this weekend and then 2018 — bring it on!”

Younger brother Kyle was happy with his progress in Mini Rok. “I really learned so much this weekend,” 10-year old Kyle admitted. “It was a great experience and I fought hard in my heats, but with 162 karts in the class, it was always going to be tough to make it through, but I loved every minute and learnt so much, so I am ready to defend my second place in the WP Maxterino championship at the finals at Killarney on Saturday.”
