Motlekar races to prepare for the ‘Olympics of Karting.'

Ghazi Motlekar enjoyed a great weekend of karting at the Rotax Max Karting African Open in Benoni on Sunday. 2020 South African under-13 Mini Max champion Ghazi had nothing to win or lose over the weekend, which included the Open and penultimate round of the Rotax Max Northern Regions title chase. He still won two heats through the two meetings as he put in many more racing laps in preparation for the ‘Olympics of Karting' Grand Finals in Portugal in January.

“All in all a good weekend,” Ghazi smiled. “I won the first heat of Saturday’s regional, but the second got away from us! “I was helped onto the grass early on and then fought back to second. “The final was huge fun because I started right at the back and fought back to second, by just a second.

“Sunday was all about training — I am already in the South African team for Portugal so I had nothing to lose and we took the day as a training session for the Grand Finals in Portimao. “I was happy to win the first heat and then come in second in race two. “I also had a good fight in the final and fought my way to second. “Thanks to the team and my folks once again - we achieved our objectives and won a couple of races, so all good.

“We will be traveling to Europe to do a meeting in three weeks time, so I can get to better understand how it all works over there. “Then we are off to represent South Africa in the Grand Finals, which happens in the last week of January. “The Grand Finals are war — all the Mini Max champions from around the world come together to race to see who the best is in the world.  “I can’t wait — we are counting the sleeps!"
