Lee Thompson Racing Motor Mart Volkswagen Challenge Class A brothers, Wayne and Shaun Crous made best of a damp and difficult Zwartkops Raceway and ended up racing each other on a track that improved through the day following a very wet qualifying session as younger brother Shaun came out on top in seventh overall in only his second race in the top class after Wayne ran into a few issues to end up eighth.

“The first race was great — I enjoyed a good dice with my brother, but I made a mistake and he got away,” Ancro Building Projects LTR Polo pilot Shaun admitted. “Then I found myself mixing it with Quinton Needham — we had a small coming together, but I ended up eighth and just behind Wayne. “The second race was a lot better and I had a clean drive to seventh to take seventh overall. “All and all it was a great day — thank you to my sponsor Ancro Building Projects; to Lee and the lads for the opportunity and all glory to God for giving us another great weekend of racing!” 

Elder brother Wayne’s weekend was compromised by issues starting in qualifying with his Deltech/Toshiba Teach LTR Polo: “I could not see out the car when the windscreen fogged up due to the heavy rain and I ended up qualifying tenth,” Wayne rued. “Then I made an average start and enjoyed a good scrap with a few guys in the first few lap before I lost third and fourth gears, so I was quite happy with seventh. “I had a cool dice with my boet until my car dropped voltage and lost power in race 2. “We ended up eighth overall, the car is in one piece and we can prepare for Cape Town next month. “Thanks to Lee Thompson for all the effort!”

“That was a tough learning curve for the Crous boys,” Lee Thompson concluded. “But they dealt with it well and both will come back stronger next time.” Lee Thompson Racing’s next appointment is at Kyalami with its national drivers, Charl Smalberger in Sasol GTC2 and Simon Need and Delon Thompson this coming Saturday 24 March.
