Pole, race win start Daniel’s karting year
Daniel Duminy turned a challenging day at the races around to deliver a pole position and a race win en route to a strong second overall in the Northern Regions Senior Max Karting Championship season opener at Zwartkops on Saturday.
“It was a very tough day,” Daniel explained. “We out-qaulified everyone by thee-tenths of a second and then race one came - was a tough and clean scrap, but Cameron O'Connor eventually beat me to second. “The second race went brilliantly — I’d opened up a five-second lead and was cruising home when my kart’s battery exploded two laps from home and I retired.
“I started at the back in the final, but I put my head down and drove my heart out and managed to win. “I suppose second overall for the day is a fair result then, but I know we have the pace to make up for it going forward, so special thanks to Ricky Perdigao for the best kart on the track. "Now all we need is a little luck!” Next race is in Vereeniging 04 March.
