Pole, lap record and win on comeback for Lupini

Giordano Lupini returned to racing in fine style with two pole positions, a lap record, two fastest laps and a race win on his Class B debut aboard his Bullion IT and Banhoek Chilli Oil VW Jetta in the Cheaper Cars GTi Challenge at Killarney on Saturday. 2019 Class C champion Lupini took a season out last year, but delivered a dominant display on his comeback.

“I am delighted to have picked up where we left off,” Giordano confirmed after a hard fought second race win. “Unfortunately we had a gear lever issue in the first heat — it would not select second off the line, so I dropped to the back off the start. 'I was back to third after a couple of laps but then it got stuck in third gear, so I just toured home.

“Race 2 was great — I was a bit cautious off the line and Eden Thompson got ahead, but I was able to make a move round the outside through Turn 1 and into Turn 2. “Eden kept me on my toes all the way from there, but I managed to hold him off for the win! “Our single lap pace was great, but we had a tricky week in the lead-up to the races and we lacked a bit of race pace, so I had to deal with pressure from Eden throughout.

“Still, it proved to be a better day than we expected — the car has good potential, which we plan to unlock more of, before next race on 1 May, because we're sure our rivals will hit back! “Special thanks to my sponsors, Bullion IT and Banhoek Chilli Oil, all our partners and everyone else who contributed to make yesterday happen — not least of all Nian, Chase and the guys at NDT Racing for a splendid car first time out.”
