Leah’s Ladies title tops fine Honda racing year
Honda’s Red Rockets enjoyed a championship winning day at the final round GXCC Gauteng Cross Country championship in Carletonville on Saturday.
Lady racer Leah Heygate topped the Honda headlines with yet another class victory to take the 2022 GXCC Northern Regions Ladies title aboard her Sleepover Tork Craft CIT Honda CRF 250 RX. The Ladies title crowns an exceptional season for Leah and adds to her fine ninth against the guys in the national 250cc OR3 championship.
Sleepover Tork Craft CIT Honda CRF 450 RX teammates Gareth Cole and Hayden Louw meanwhile enjoyed a great day, riding home seconds apart in second and third in the open class OR1. Cole, who has already won at national level, and Louw are poised for an all-out Red Rocket Cross Country attack in 2023.
Sleepover Craft CIT lad Liam Scheepers delivered another second place in 65cc Juniors. Teammate Tyron Beverley meanwhile brought the team’s experimental CRF 300 RX home an impressive third in the OR2 class, as 250cc OR3 rider Haydn Cole eased back from injury.
“We are delighted to crown Honda’s Cross Country return with a splendid Ladies title for Leah Heygate,” team boss Harry Grobler concluded. “Special thanks to every member of our awesome Sleepover Tork Craft CIT Racing team. “We have now made our line in the sand and look forward to a meaningful step forward into 2023. “Bring it on!”
