A win and a second sets up WP kart assault

Durbanville’s Jason Coetzee set himself up for a two-class fight in the Western Cape Karting Championships when he delivered a dominant Senior Max win and came home a close second in DD2 at the penultimate title round at the Killarney Kart Track on Saturday. Coetzee now holds a fifteen point championship lead over Andrew Rackstraw in Senior Max and trails his teammate Umpie Swart in second in the DD2 title race.

“We had an excellent weekend in Senior Max,” Jason confirmed. “Pole position and three lights to flag wins was good! “Thanks so much to my SAKRA team and for a brilliant kart all weekend — now we just need to keep it together for the final round in October, but first we have the small issue of the Senior Max national final up in Zwartkops at the end of the month — that’s the big one for us!

“DD2 started well — I ended up second on the grid behind Jonathan Thomas and ahead of my championship-leading EMR Extreme Team CRG teammate Umpie, but he was just too strong in the races. “DD2 was special this weekend — Umpie, Jono and me diced so hard, so close without ever a problem — it is so good to race like that!

“I am a little too far behind Umpie in the WP DD2 championship, so the objective there is to try beat him in the finals and work on an EMR Extreme Team championship 1-2, but we first have the national final in DD2 too and who knows anything can happen once again up at Zwartkops — bring it on!
