Junior title, wins in Senior & DD2

Durbanville Cape kart star Jason Coetzee wrapped up his super-busy Western Province karting year in style over the weekend as he won heats in both Senior Max and DD2 and wrapped up a second Junior Max championship on the trot without even racing in that class at Saturday’s Killarney finale. Coetzee opted to sit out Junior Max as by doing so he unlocked enough otherwise dropped points to ensure he would win the title without even racing.

“I never raced Junior Max this weekend because I wanted to make it fair,” Jason explained. “Now they can’t say that I just won because of Sebastian Boyd and Charl Visser did not race at one meeting earlier in the year — we all started the same number of races in the end and I still won my second WP Junior Max championship in a row by 14 points.

“I still had a great day on track — we won Senior Max overall and I managed to win a race in DD2 on my debut in that class where we ended up second overall, so add the Junior title to that and it really is a day to remember. “I would like thank all the people who helped me this year and made it all possible — thanks so much — I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Jason now focuses on the double challenges of his Grade 10 exams and preparing for the Rotax Max World Finals in Portugal 11-14 November “We are heading to Portugal for the World Finals next,” Jason concluded “I’m putting in a lot of training in between my studies so I can be ready — I hope to make South Africa proud — I really can’t wait!”
