Seven Gauteng titles up for grabs

The 2019 MSA Northern Regions Karting Championships will wrap up at Vereeniging’s Laserfiche Raceway Saturday 20 October with most class titles very much up for grabs and the added intrigue of certain drivers not having to drop race scores, while others will need to improve on their worst results of the season to just add to their scores.

One man with everything going for him is newly crowned SA DD2 champion and V-Town local hero Arnold Neveling, who leads the NR DD2 title in spite of missing a race, so all his results will count on Saturday. Second placed Bradley Liebenberg will miss Saturday's races as he has a date clash with Zwartkops' Sasol GTC commitments, but Anton Pommersheim sits third in the gearbox class title race from Nick Spanoyannis, Pascal Acquaah, Brandon Smith and Philippe Chapat, who leads Acquaah in the Masters chase, but Pascal has no scores to drop so there’s another twist in the tail in the offing…

Wayland Wyman heads to Vereeniging in the Senior Max championship lead, but Nicholas Verheul sits a close championship second and will not drop any of Saturday's points, so he has a mathematical conundrum on his side over Wyamn who must drop three solid scores. Shannon Jackson and Ian Allnutt sit third in the Senior title race, but expect Liam Pienaar to play interference together with Reobaka Komane and Luvuyu Mobwano.

Jayden Els was unstoppable as he moved ahead in the under-15 high school Junior Max title last time out and this is one class that is not all that open to drop score fluctuations, although Daniele Patrizi back in sixth will not drop any of his scores, which should factor in Els, Jarrod Waberski, Kwanda Mokoena, Aqil Alibhai and Leyton Fourie’s title calculations. Don’t ignore Nathi Msimanga, Daniel de Paiva or Joseph Ellerine among this mad lot where, quite literally, anything can happen.

In primary school action, fourth-placed Mathew Morrell is the no-drop joker in Under-13 Mini Max, but with Jordan Brooks, who sits in a dominant championship lead not racing, that opens the way for Morrell, Joshua De Paiva, Josh Le Roux and Jayden Goosen to chase the absent Brooks for that championship, while Michele Patrizi, Liam de Beer and Mandla Mlangeni are all ready to strike too.

Muhammad Wally and Joshua de Paiva will fight it out for under-11 Micro Max championship honours, with Mohammed Moerat keeping a watching brief and drop score joker KC Ensor Smith lurking with intent. Add Kyle Beukes, Kent Swartz, Luviwe Sambudla and Bjorn Bertholdt and you have a recipe for extreme kid kart action….

Last but not least, the under-8 Bambino karting nursery sees Tshepang Shisinwana in a comfortable championship lead over Aadam Kajee, Anesu Maphumulo and Troy van der Laan.

The Laserfische Raceway is on van Riebeeck Street Vereeniging, next to the Vaal Show Grounds, left off the Boy Louw Street off-ramp heading south on the R59 Vereeniging freeway. Good food and refreshments are on sale at the clubhouse and entrance is free, so why not make a day of it?
