A great day’s historic racing at Zwartkops

Lindenberg Racing enjoyed a positive outing, coming home with its fair share of the class wins and silverware when the Historic Tour visited Zwartkops Raceway Saturday 29 September. Father and daughter team Pete and Paige Lindenberg took to the track in the combined Sports, ISP, Trans-AM and Le Mans races, while Djurk Venter raced in both the Historic Saloons and Endurance races.

Paige Lindenberg had a good run in her giant Lindenberg Racing ’68 Ford Fairlane, winning both heats of the SKF Trans-AM races en route to overall victory, while Pete Lindenberg had a tougher time of it after hitting trouble in the opening race aboard his Lindenberg Racing 65 Shelby Mustang. The team sorted the car between races allowing Lindenberg to thunder to the second heat win and take second in the Pre-’66 Legends class for the day.

“The Fairlane ran like clockwork today,” Paige admitted. “It’s a big car for a little track like Zwartkops but what a challenge, so a good day all round.” Dad Peter added, “We had a silly little issue in the first heat, but we were back up to speed in race 2 — the Shelby Mustang is a special car to drive at the limit - I can’t get enough of it!”

Djurk Venter had a busy but most successful day in the Lindenberg Racing 1968 Ford Escort, racing to third in Class G in the opening Pre’80 Historic Saloons Class F-H race before taking the class win in the second race to add to the team’s win tally before bouncing back to also take the class in the Endurance Race in spite of a tricky start. “The Escort was on rails today,” Djurk quipped. “It’s so cool to lift that class winner’s trophy - today was pretty good all round!”
