Zwartkops victory for delighted Stuwie

Fifteen year old Stuart White was delighted to finally break arch rival Julian van der Watt’s stranglehold on the Investchem South African Formula 1600 series with a splendid maiden victory in the class in Saturday’s second race at Zwartkops’ Sasol Race Day. Bloemfontein lad White qualified on pole before ending second in the first race, but he pulled off a brave move to pass van der Watt and drive to victory in Race 2.

“I am totally delighted with this great result,” Stuart who had to fight his way past his experienced rival to score that much anticipated victory admitted.” Pole position, my first win in the class and an overall win for the day to cap it off - I am so happy! “I had to work very hard for it though - Julian is not the easiest guy to pass - I lost my wing trying and ended up second in the first heat, but I got it right in the second.

“Julian managed to get the jump on me to lead both heats, but I managed to pass him around the outside in a move that took four corners to get right, but he left me enough room to do it. “From there I managed to keep ahead to take the flag first — what a feeling!

“I have a lot of people to thank - least of all my dad and my team, Fantastic Racing, Mark Lauth and all the guys from Investchem Formula 1600 - this series is quickly becoming the place for young drivers to race and I am very happy to have my first win in the bag.”

Stuart will miss the next round of the F1600 series at Killarney due to a date clash with his French Formula 4 Academy commitments 9-10 September, but he will be back chasing more wins at Kyalami in November.
