Gilbert leads the way to Carnival City

Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing heads to the casino on Saturday 1 June, but it is certainly not to gamble as Kenny Gilbert arrives at Carnival City on Gauteng’s East Rand in a handy lead of OR1 open class heading into the third round of South African Cross Country Motorcycle championship. His teammate and Pretoria compatriot Taki Bogiages meanwhile looks forward to riding at full strength again as he chases OR2 class glory in the veld to the south of Brakpan.

Gilbert arrives at Carnival City in an 8-point championship lead, but perhaps more significantly, with 11 points in hand over arch rival and reigning champion Ross Branch off a dominant last race on the Western Cape Koue Bokkeveld. “We arrive at our home race leading the championship — an advantage for sure but it is still very early in the season,” Kenny pointed out.

“So it’s maximum attack from the outset to get out front and avoid the dust this weekend — my Pepson Plastics team has prepared me a perfect Husqvarna to take to battle as usual and the objective is to extend our points advantage at Carnival City. “Special thanks in advance to the team and everyone in my corner — see you at Carnival City!"

Bogiages takes the short trip to Brakpan anticipating another step forward in his comeback after suffering a broken back late last year. “I was seventh at the Jolivet season opener and fourth in the Bokkeveld last time out, so if I can keep up with that progress I should be able to stand high on the podium this weekend and that’s the objective,” The Taki admitted.

“I’m sitting joint fourth in the championship chase and a good result at Carnival City should see me move up the order and set me up for a charge into the second half of the season — Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing has been right behind me through my recuperation and I fully intend to pay the team back with a great result this weekend!"

“Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing heads to Carnival City looking to capitalise on a great start to the season,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham concluded. “Kenny leads the OR1 championship lead and Taki has delivered impressive results considering his circumstances so we are quite excited about our prospects — go get it guys!”
