Pepper Racing enjoyed another great weekend in the Engen Polo Cup’s midseason championship weekend at the quick East London Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday. Jason Campos and Shaun La Reservee delivered another Masters Class 1-2 overall, Keegan Campos continued his consistent championship form and Tasmin Pepper took a fine second in the opening race, before hitting trouble in the second heat.

Jason Campos made great progress through the weekend in the Turn 1 Pepper Racing Polo, just missing the superpole cut in seventh but he moved up a position to sixth overall and second among the Masters in race 1 and then delivered a fine second to take the Masters win in the second heat to wrap up third overall and taking the Masters win for the day. “My weekend started a little nervy,” Jason explained. “We however found a problem and built up session by session and the car was soon on rails. "Race 2 was finally a fair reflection of our pace — it's great to have a positive result in the bag, but now it's all eyes on the next race.”

Keegan Campos qualified his Campos Transport Pepper Racing Polo quickest but dropped down to fifth in Superpole, before taking fourth in the opening race and 8th in the second to end up fourth overall and third among the Juniors. “That was a bit of an up and down weekend!” Keegan pointed out. “Qualifying was brilliant, but I could not find that sort of pace in Superpole, so I ended fifth on the grid and made up a place to fourth in the first race. “We dropped back a little in race 2, but still scored good points in 8th — every point is going to count this year and I’ll take that third overall among the Juniors. “Thanks to the team and our sponsors for all the effort.”

Shaun La Reservee put his Alpine Volkswagen Pepper Racing Polo eighth on the grid and made up a position in the opening race to also take third in Masters before moving up to fifth and second in Masters in race 2 to take sixth overall and second overall among the Masters drivers for the day. “I had a good East London," Shaun confirmed. "We bagged some very valuable points and showed some decent pace - well done to Keegan on his first Pole and Jason for a great race weekend and unlucky for Tazz - she will bounce back in PE where we're back in the hunt."

Tasmin Pepper qualified sixth and capitalised on Superpole to move up to fourth on the grid before delivering a fine second and overall taking the Masters class win in the first race in the Electric Life Pepper Racing Polo, but a technical issue saw her stop on the warm-up lap of the second race. “I stayed out of trouble in race 1 and took some really good points for the championship fight, but race 2 was heartbreaking,” Tasmin rued. “We had to replace the radiator after race 1 and a hose popped on the warm up lap and the car lost all its water. “Such a pity — we could have left here in the overall championship lead, but we take the good with the bad and we keep fighting! “The championship is far from over and we are looking forward to bouncing back in PE in a couple weeks time.”

“That was a pretty good weekend all round,” team principal Iain Pepper concluded. “Another Masters 1-2 for Jason and Shaun, third, fourth and sixth overall and a couple of race podiums is a pretty good haul and all four drivers strong in the championship is a good result. “It’s a pity for Tasmin’s race 2 issue — that’s how it goes sometimes, but the focus is now on maintaining our momentum and consolidating our championship position in the second half of the season starting in Port Elizabeth 14 July.”
