Shaun, Tasmin, Dan & Gio ready to race

Pepper Racing heads for Port Elizabeth’s Aldo Scribante racetrack Saturday 15 July intent to put one of its cars on top of the Engen Volkswagen Cup podium for the first time since the Extreme Festival visited Kyalami in April. Both Tasmin Pepper and Shaun La Réservée have been in the top three in the two rounds since Kyalami, but the team would prefer to have that top slot back this weekend.

“It’s been too long since we last won a race, but I’m sure the guys and girls are due to end up in front again,” team principal Iain Pepper pondered. “Let’s hope we can expect a little of that this weekend.”

Durban driver Shaun La Réserveé has been in the top three in all three rounds he has raced so far this year, with the highlight being his win at the Killarney season opener. “I’m really looking forward to PE,” the Alpine Volkswagen Polo driver and reigning Masters champion pointed out. “I had an epic battle there last year with Matt Shorter and I’m hoping for some more good, clean, hard racing this weekend — I can’t wait.”

Tasmin Pepper enjoyed her best weekend of the year with a couple of seconds in the Campos Transport/Alpine VW Polo at Zwartkops last time out: “I’m looking forward to racing in PE again… I missed it last year!” the Edenvale lass confirmed. “The track always brings extreme close racing and there is always such a great atmosphere at Aldo Scribante. “I’m hoping to better my position from the previous round at Zwartkops and excited to get back behind the wheel again!”

Pepper Racing’s Junior Team is also looking for another step up in Port Elizabeth and Ballito lad Daniel Duminy has been training hard and is fully focussed on upping his game in the SMD Polo. “This is going to be a good weekend,” the 16-year old Ballito lad promised. “Thanks to Iain and Shane for all the hard work on the car - I am looking forward to making it all worth their while.”

Team rookie, Franschhoek racer Giordano Lupini will continue on his climb up the Polo Cup learning curve on his first visit to the Aldo Scribante racetrack. “I’m excited to take on another new track,” Giordano, also 16 admitted. “Let’s hope we can carry on with our better luck from last round’s races - I’m looking forward to the weekend!”

“We had a fairly good weekend at Zwartkops with positive results and a good few podiums,” Iain Pepper concluded. “We are ready for PE - now up to the drivers to make it happen.”
