Motlekar makes mincemeat of his Mini Rivals

Dainfern kart racer Ghazi Motlekar got his 2020 Rotax under-13 Mini Max Karting Championship off to a flying start when he dominated the first round at the iDube Raceway near Pietermaritzburg in KZN on Sunday. Motlekar took four race wins in four races and set the fastest lap as he also started from pole position to make it a grand slam to walk away with a maximum points score too.

“That was the perfect weekend!” a delighted Ghazi admitted. “It was not plain sailing though — I had to work for it as my rivals were right there all day long, but we won all four races off pole position and I also had the fastest lap of the day in heat 2.

“This weekend was also a dream come true and the perfect way to start my national championship campaign — now we just need to keep it together and maintain my title advantage and with a little luck, we can take the championship and book my ticket to the Olympics of Karting Rotax Max grand Finals in Portugal in January.

“Most importantly, I did not do this on my own and a lot of people have had so much to do with my success — not least of all uncle Hughie  for the perfect Praga kart, Stanley my engineer and and Wesleigh Orr for my engine and uncle Aldrin for all his help, and of course my parents for supporting me. “See you at Zwartkops!"

The second and third rounds of the 2020 South African Rotax Mini Max Championships happen back-to-back on both Zwartkops' two new track formats on 19 and 20 September, before a four-heat Final at Killarney in Cape Town on 17 October.
