Jordan bags second in a tough opener

Jordan North got his 2017 high school Junior Max karting year off to a solid start when he ended a strong second in Saturday’s Northern Regions season opener at Zwartkops.

“The day started perfectly when we qualified on pole position for the first heat,” Jordan admitted. “But we chose the wrong gear ratio for the race and I struggled a bit, so I was happy to end up a very close third.  “I had the quickest kart in the second heat but the lap board showed two laps to go and then the flag came out the next lap and I was still in second by just 0.05 seconds, so that was a tough one because I was waiting to make my move and that probably cost us the win.

I was quickest again in the third race but Dias and Wyman crashed in the first lap and that let Blaine Rademeyer to pull a 4 second gap. I worked to close down the gap, but there were not enough laps left to catch him. “It was a good weekend with a good points haul so a great start to the season.” The second round of the Northern Regions series is at Vereeniging on 04 March.
