Julian van der Watt remains unbeaten

Julian van der Watt pushed his dominant and unbeaten run of Investchem Formula 1600 wins to ten races out of ten starts as he once again dominated proceedings, starting from pole position and setting a new lap record en route to yet another double victory in Port Elizabeth over the weekend.

Ten races into the new wings & slicks series, van der Watt also remains the only driver ever to win in Formula 1600. “We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend, Julian admitted. “The pace was extremely close through the practice sessions, but I was still able to put it on pole position and we were the only car to break into the 1 minute 3 second lap time bracket.

“I made brilliant starts both races which we led flag to flag, which I was very happy about. We also managed to pull a gap over a 3 second in both heats and we set a new lap record, but best of all, that is 10 wins from 10 starts this season. “A huge thanks to Ian Schofield and Investchem as well as my mechanic Hendrik and Claudio from RDSA for all the help — couldn’t have done it without them!”
