Swart on top East London Polo form

Jurie Swart Junior celebrated his new sponsorship from G-Energy Lubricants in style on Saturday, when the Cape Town driver qualified on the Falken Polo Cup and led most of the first race en route to a close second. A fraught second heat brought fifth position to leave the Cape Town driver in a two-point three-way fight for third in the title race.

“It was great to lead the whole first race,” Umpie admitted. “Quali was good and that put me on the front row and we were able to avoid all the drama behind that saw the first race red flagged. “From there all was good and I was on my own out front, but in the end our strategy did not work and Jeffrey Kruger was able to close me down and outsmart me to steal the win on the last lap - well done to him.

“The second race was frustrating - I was right there with Brad Liebenberg and Arnold Neveling, but Arnold was struggling and driving very defensively and we touched when I made a lunge and that unsettled the suspension camber, so I had too much understeer and Keegan Campos found a way past in the end so I ended fifth, but third for the day.

“It was a good weekend in all and so good to lead like that and while I am a bit disappointed with the second race result, I feel it does not reflect on our pace. “But we are still right there in the title race, so thanks to G-Energy and all our sponsors, to my dad and to Andrew Goslett and GAP Motorsport for a brilliant car - now we head home to Killarney for the next race 28 September and the aim is to repeat our win there last time out - bring it on!”
