Five wins from six starts for Kyle, Charl

Durbanville, Cape Town karting brothers Kyle and Charl Visser quite literally made their Killarney home Rotax Max Challenge national their own on Saturday as young Kyle Visser qualified on pole position and raced to three dominant under-13 Mini Max wins as he jumped from fifth to a close second in the championship. And while big brother Charl may not have taken the under-15 Junior Max overall win, his first two race wins were enough to see him take a firm grasp on that championship chase.

“That was a perfect weekend,” Kyle admitted with a huge smile on his face. “My dad and the guys gave me the perfect kart and I had a really great day behind the wheel - I led the first two races from start to finish and had a bit of work to do at the beginning of the final to come back from fourth but from there it was a matter of keeping the guys behind. “Today also made up for a difficult year so far - I stepped up after a disaster in Vereeniging and I am up from fifth to second in the championship, so I really can't wait for the Finals at Zwartkops - we have a championship to win!”

“The first two races were brilliant, “Charl explained. “I was on pole and had two great wins in the first two races, but the dream ended there because the final proved a bit rougher — there was a bit of bumping and barging and my rear bumper was knocked off and eventually dragged behind me and the officials brought me in. “It was a pity because the kart was so slow but I still managed to fight for sixth until then, but it doesn’t really matter because we will drop that race and we are now almost a race win of points ahead in the championship.

“It’s not easy going into the final in front, but we will prepare well for Zwartkops and I need to just keep out of trouble and bring it home up there - it's a bit of a wait, but I am really looking forward to that.”
