Charl bounces back; Kyle finds pace

Double South African Rotax Max champion Visser brothers, Charl and Kyle enjoyed positive weekends at Saturday’s pre-national second round Western Province Karting Championship races at Killarney. Charl bounced back to take a tight Senior Max win, while Kyle found better pace as he raced to third in Junior Max.

The weekend did not start as well as Charl may have liked, as he qualified second before struggling with the balance of his Charl Electric FA Kart en route to third in the opening heat. The team worked through the lunch break to find a solution and it worked as Charl stormed to a pair of wins in the second and third heats to sneak overall honours and consolidate his WP Senior Max title lead.

“We had a small problem on the kart in the first heat and I struggled a bit to end up third,” 2018 SA Junior Max champion Charl explained. “But my engineer Zeferino worked on the kart between races and the second heat went very well. "I managed to strike back with a good win and we repeated that in the final. “Now we have the national at home in two weeks and I’d say we are ready."

It was a day of thirds for Junior Max rookie Kyle, who qualified in that position before ending third in all three heats and third overall too, but the South African Mini Max champion was buoyed by his improved pace aboard his Charl Electric FA Kart through the weekend.

“The first race was a bit tough, but we were better in race 2 and I was able to fight for the win and ended third again,” Kyle reflected. “I still lack a bit of experience in the big kart, but I am learning fast, so I'm looking forward to the national where our home advantage should balance that off.”

So it’s all eyes on that Killarney Rotax Max Karting National on 23 March, with both brothers out to build on their 2018 SA Rotax Max national titles, albeit a class above for each of them this time around.
