Stuart smashes Tony Martin’s 35 year old mark

South African Investchem Formula 1600 champion Stuart White cut a significant notch in his belt on Saturday, when the teenager broke the all-time Killarney International Raceway lap record to write his name into the books alongside the likes of Jim Clark, John Love and Dave Charlton. White powered the mighty Maui Ginetta-Corvette to a quickest lap of 1 minute 6.745 seconds in Saturday's opening Sports & GT race to finally beat Tony Martin’s 1980s mark set in a Formula Atlantic Maurer Mazda.

“Boom!” a delighted Stuart explained. “I have broken the Killarney International Raceway’s official lap record — a mark that has stood since the 1980s. “I am super-proud about this one — I need to extend a huge thank you to Graig Jarvis, who made it possible to race in his awesome Ginetta G57 and to Harp Motorsport for a perfectly set-up racecar to pull it off and of course to our sponsor Maui Motorhomes for the chance to make it happen.”

Stuart now returns to Formula 1600 duty at Zwartkops in three weeks, where he plans to extend a slender title lead there after a close first round at Dezzi in KZN two weeks back.
