Husqvarna rising star delivers in Lesotho

Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing youngster Matthew Green delivered a star turn to finish sixth in the ‘Mother of Hard Enduro’ 2018 Motul Roof of Africa’s most extreme gold class. The bruising race through the toughest gorges and most daunting climbs the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho has to offer, is said to be among the most daunting of the epic event’s 51-year history and Green was delighted to add a second gold medal to the first he won last year.

“This year’s Roof was as tough as ever,” Nottingham Road 16-year old Matthew admitted. “My Pepson Plastics Husqvarna TE 150 ran like a dream and I had a pretty good run to earn my second hard enduro medal this season after also ending up sixth in the Silver class in the Red Bull Romaniacs and third overall in the SA E2 enduro championships, so I’m pretty delighted! “Of course I can’t do this on my own and I must thank the best team in the business for the opportunity to race at this level."

It was a tough roof for Pepson Plastics Husqvarna’s second rider, 20-year old Mossel Bay lad William Oosthuizen, who opted to withdraw after a crash following a positive run early on Day 2. “You can’t win them all,” William rued. “I was having a great run on my Pepson Plastics Husqvarna TE 300i when I took a tumble and we decided to stop rather than risk it. “A pity and sorry for the team, but that’s racing!"

“The Roof of Africa ends a huge season for Husqvarna in local racing,” Husqvarna South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham wrapped it up. “Well ridden Matthew — it’s been wonderful watching you grow and improve through the season and the Roof was tribute to building our young Pepson Plastics Husqvarna team into the future, and bad luck to William — as you say, that’s racing.

“It’s been a great year — two SA motocross championships and so close to a couple in the SA Enduro and Cross Country titles, so a huge word of thanks to our incredible team and the whole Husqvarna South Africa racing family for a brilliant effort all-round. “You have all earned a welcome break — enjoy it because we will be back with a vengeance next year — bring it on!”
