Lupini keen to win again at home
16-year old Giordano Lupini returns to his home turf and the penultimate round of the 2016 Bold Marine Western Cape GTi Challenge singing off a fresh sheet following his victorious trip to Kyalami two weeks ago. Main circuit rookie Lupini drove his Monroe Racing RSA Volkswagen Golf 1 GTi to double victory on his first visit to the Midrand Grand Prix Circuit, now he’s chasing another good weekend at home at Killarney.
“Kyalami was a magnificent weekend and the best possible way to score my first main circuit win,” the Franschhoek Bridge House Grade 10 scholar explained. “Now we need to repeat that at home, which is not an easy job - Class C of the GTi Challenge is one of the toughest classes in the country and I’m racing against some really quick guys, so we must have all our ducks in a row to do that.”
To that end, Lupini’s Monroe Racing RSA Bakkie & Car magazine team has moved its car preparation to champion team MRD from this weekend’s races. “We have had good pace over the past few months,” Giordano explained. “But our luck, reliability and other aspects have not been up to what we need to compete at the front and we are confident that our move to Brian Maunder, Nian du Toit and the MRD team will bring us the results we are chasing for the last few races of 2016 as we start looking ahead to next season.”
Giordano will race amongst a full Bold Marine GTi grid that can be expected to deliver fireworks among a full and varied program at Killarney’s 12 November meeting - it’s a great way to spend a balmy Cape Saturday - see you there!
