Boyd heads to World Kart Finals

14-year old Camps Bay lad Sebastian Boyd is one of four Southern African drivers heading to Bahrain to compete in the 2016 CIK-FIA World Junior Karting Championships at the 1.4km Sakhir International Kart Circuit 15-19 November.

Boyd, who was a regular winner and frontrunner in the South African and Western Cape Junior Max championships is champing at the bit to take on 100 of the world’s best karters at what is in essence the jewel in the 2016 world karting crown. “I can’t wait for next week,” SACS Grade 8 scholar Sebastian confirmed. “I am so exited to represent South Africa against the worlds best.”

“I've had a positive year and we have been on top of our game in South Africa,” Boyd explained. “It’s very different in the World Finals though - there are 100 karts chasing 30 final slots, so the objective is to be as fast as possible and to try keep out of trouble — that’s not always easy and it’s the first time I’ll be in a qualifying race, but I’ll give it my absolute all.

“I need to thank my dad and RKT for this brilliant opportunity — it's a dream come true!”  Boyd travels to Bahrain as part of a four-kart Junior team comprising SA lads Stuart White and Jason Coetzee and Mozambican Karl Pitzer.
