Hyman flies in Abu Dhabi GP3 test

South Africa’s Raoul Hyman ended off this three-day three-team Abu Dhabi test in style in spite of a frustrating final Friday when he stepped into one of the Trident team’s Dallara GP3 machine on Friday.

Hyman, who ended seventh fastest driving for DAMS on Wednesday and sixth on Thursday for Korianen was looking good for another solid result Friday until delayed by a series of technical issues. “We had a fuel sensor problem this morning which caused me to run out of fuel on track whilst lying sixth,” Raoul reported. “My car was recovered to the pits, but I was not classified in that session because the car ended up a few grams underweight, as a result of running out of fuel.

“Unfortunately we suffered another issue this afternoon, which prevented us from turning in an ideal new tyre run, which is frustrating, because I’m sure my pace this morning was good enough for a top three, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

“Either way, it’s been most encouraging for me to come in from the blue to be squarely inside the top ten all week, especially considering that we jumped from team to team and had to set the cars up from scratch each time, but we learned so much and I am sure we have shown our true worth to earn a GP3 drive in 2017,” Hyman concluded.

Thanks so much to all three teams - DAMS, Korianen and Trident for the chance to test and to all our sponsors for making this unique opportunity happen — hopefully this is the start of an exciting new racing journey for me and I cannot wait for the chance.”
