A new WRC era beckons in Monte Carlo
The entry list for this month's Monte Carlo Rally that ushers in a new WRC era when it runs from January 19-22 sees Ford trio Sebastien Ogier, Ott Tanak and Elfyn Evans ranked first second and third for the WRC opener as world champion Ogier prepares for his first rally as a Ford man. The list also confirms Evans as a works Ford driver on DMack rubber versus his teammates Michelins.
Hayden Paddon, Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo will start fourth, fifth and sixth in the new Hyundai i20 Coupe WRCs, while Citroen and Toyota will run two 2017 cars each, with Kris Meeke and Stephane Lefebvre taking the wheel of the French firm's C3 WRCs and Jari-Matti Latvala leads Finnish countryman Juho Hanninen in a pair of Yaris on Toyota's WRC return. The top two finishers from each works team can score manufacturer points this year
Irishman Craig Breen starts the season in a 2016-spec DS 3 WRC before shifting to the 2017 car at next month's Rally Sweden, while Greek driver Jourdan Serderidis is the only FIA WRC Trophy entrant in a DS 3 WRC.
Skoda returns to WRC2 with VW refugee Andreas Mikkelsen and Jan Kopecky in two Fabia R5s, while Eric Camilli' steps down to a Fiesta R5. The FIA R-GT Cup sees three Fiat 124 entries, including one from former Monte winner Francois Delecour set to take on the Porsche 911s headed up by Romain Dumas.
