Wins, podiums and a positive raceday

Saturday’s Zwartkops Passion for Speed proved to be a hit with the fans as has become expected as even the morning’s damp conditions would not deter classic racing and an enthusiastic crowd. Conditions improved as the day progressed to result in a great day for Lindenberg Racing with race wins, podiums and strong results amongst a busy and productive raceday.

The weekend was a perfect debut for Peter Lindenberg and his newly completed Shelby Mustang GT 350. Team patron Pete, who has returned to good health following recent major surgery celebrated his racing comeback as he turned in a spirited drive to second overall in the SKF Pre 1966 Legends of the 9 Hour Production V8s as he raced his brand new Shelby to second overall behind Paolo Cavallieri’s Galaxie on his car’s maiden outing.

“That really was a great day’s racing in the Legends,” Lindenberg, who set the fastest Legends lap of the day as he came to grips with his new steed, admitted. “Remia built a cracker of a Mustang — the car was brilliant — second overall out the box and ultra competitive, what more could I ask for!”

Peter also shared the Shelby Daytona Cobra with daughter Paige, ending up 14th in the Castrol Pre-68 TT Sports & GT endurance race as part of a busy weekend for the team, while Djurk Venter brought Lindenberg Racing’s sister Shelby Daytona home 19th on that car’s maiden outing in the same race.

The Pre-’84 Classic Production race was a mixed bag for Paige Lindenberg, with an impressive win in the first race aboard the mammoth Ford Fairlane. “Wow - that was definitely my most challenging and exciting race day yet,” Paige admitted. “Well done Zwartkops - what a brilliant day’s racing!”

Djurk Venter meanwhile brought his Lindenberg Racing Ford Capri Perana home 8th in Class D, before improving to 7th in race 2 after Paige did not start the second heat. “What a great event, the racing was brilliant,” Djurk enthused. “And it was even better to compete here with our great team!”

Kirsten Venter closed off a positive day for the team as she made good progress in her Pre-68 Lindenberg Racing Ford Escort en route to 7th overall for the day.  “I really enjoyed my first race in the team’s faster Escort this week,” Kirsten admitted. “It ran quicker and quicker as I came to grips with the car through the weekend.”

Lindenberg Racing now turns its attention to the second leg of the Passion for Speed fortnight at its home track — Killarney Raceway in Cape Town - a must-do meeting for Cape race fans.
