Cadet champ Moerat steps up a rung

2016 Northern Regions Cadet karting champion Mohammed Moerat cannot wait to get his new Northern Regions season under way as he steps up to the Micro Max class and Northern Regions level for the first time at Zwartkops Saturday 18 February.

Just six years old, Hartford College Mondeor Grade R schoolboy Moerat’s team was looking to this as a learning year, but Little Mo’s performance at the recent Zwartkops club kart races suggested that it may just be a far more competitive season after all - the bigger, more powerful and heavier Micro Rok kart is considered a significant step up for Cadet karters, but this lad seems to have taken that step in his stride.

“I went very well in the club race,” Mohammed explained. “I am very happy in the kart and felt comfortable straight away, so maybe my dad and them were a bit surprised by that. “It will be harder in the regional though, we are expecting a few more guys to race, so it should be fun, but we also have to still learn about the new kart.”

Zwartkops’ opening Northern Regions races plays host to a broad selection of classes as Gauteng’s karters get their championship year under way — should be a great day’s racing.
