16-year old Lupini to take it to the men

2017 is limbering up to be a big year for Franschhoek Bridge House School lad Giordano Lupini. Not only is Grade 11 a crucial school year, but the former kart racer is set for a full racing season starting with Saturday 18 February’s first round Bold Marine GTi Challenge races at Killarney, where the youngster is keen to continue his recent winning ways.

“We ended last season off on a strong note with three race wins at Kyalami and at Killarney, where I won my first Challenge race,” Giordano explained. “We have been testing and I’m delighted with the car, and the set-up, so I’d say we are ready for the season — Brian Maunder and the MRD team have the car 100% ready for the new season and it’s just come back shining from acciDent Guru after being cleaned up from all last year’s action.

“Class C of the GTi Challenge has to be one of the most competitive classes in  South African racing — we have three class champions in Bryan Morgan, Marco Busi and Chris Swart and now Supercar champion Brad Wadley has also joined the class and never mind the rest, so to win here is going to be a big achievement. “I can’t wait - I hope to show them all my taillights as often as possible!”

Lupini’s Volkswagen Golf GTi will race in plain black colours this weekend — Scuderia Lupini will soon reveal plans for its fourth generation racer in a second race program this season…
