Positive Rok weekend for Charl, Kyle

Cape Town karting brothers Charl and Kyle Visser headed all the way across the Vaal to race in the inaugural meeting of the all-new SA Rok Cup series on the weekend and both lads returned home satisfied with their weekend’s work.

Charl came home a solid third in the all-new MSA Academy class, only his second start on a Junior-sized kart against a star-studded field. “I seemed to be stuck in third all weekend,” Charl smiled. “OK, I qualified sixth, but I ended up third in all four races and came third overall too — even though it was with mostly different guys in front and behind me each time.

“I am very happy with the result — I’m still getting used to the big kart and I learned a lot again this weekend — I'm edging closer to the pace. “We have our regional at Killarney next week and then we go back to Vereeniging for the national a week after that, both of which races I will drive in Junior Max, so I hope to see an improvement in my results in the Cape too.”

Younger brother Kyle found himself caught up in the cut and thrust of the primary school Mini Rok on Saturday and ended up fifth for the day with a third position in the second heat. “I normally race Maxterino, so it was good experience to compete in Mini Rok today and especially to prepare for the Maxterino national in Vereeniging in a few weeks. “But first we need to race the regional at home at Killarney next week and that’s going to be a tough one all on its own. “I can’t wait!”
