Pole & race win set Seb up for title chase
Cape Town kart racer Sebastian Boyd enjoyed a troubled , but most effective start to his 2017 South African Karting Championship campaign with a pole position and a race win to leave Vereeniging second in the title chase.
“It was a good weekend in the end,” Sebastian concluded. “But it was a disappointing finish – I had great pace all weekend – we'd qualified in pole and won the first race, so it was looking very good.
“Unfortunately I was run a bit wide when being passed for the lead toward the end of race 2 and found myself back in fifth after slotting back into the pack. “I also had a great last race – I had great pace once again and decided to let Jason Coetzee do all the work up front until the last lap.
“Unfortunately I was hit from the side by the kart behind, off the racing line and was knocked off the track when I made my move with two corners to go. I’m not sure if it was a desperate lunge or a racing incident, but that dropped me way down the pack and from a certain win to third overall.
“It was a good weekend all-round – we race at home at Killarney next so I need to take full advantage of that – it won’t be easy though – Cape drivers ended up 1-2-3 this weekend!”
Boyd Boss freight Kosmic driver Sebastian however has an overseas karting appointment first though as he heads to Lonato, Italy as part of a three-man South African team to race in the first round of the International OKJ Super Rok series.
