Race 2 victory highlights tough weekend

Blaine Rademeyer may not have had the best of karting weekends in the rough and tough world of Junior Max, but the Jozi racer was delighted with a dogged race 2 victory among an otherwise challenging weekend.

“It was one of those race days,” Blaine pondered. “Sometimes lady luck is not quite there, but at least I won the second race so it wasn’t all in vain.

“I qualified second but I was taken out in the chicane on the first lap of the first race and re-joined at the back of the field, put my head down and crossed the line fifth. “Unfortunately my nose cone was dislodged in that first lap nonsense and I was docked five places, but I set the fastest lap so I was on pole for race 2.

“The second race was a good, competitive heat – I had to work for it but I won so I was pretty bucked with that. “The third race was also good until the last lap with two corners to go – Jason Coetzee, Sebastian Boyd and I had raced away from the rest, but Boyd's attempt to dive Coetzee saw us both on the grass, and I dropped back to fifth.

“We now go to Cape Town and that won’t be easy because the locals will be even trickier to beat at home, but we will be ready for that weekend and I have a little lost ground to make up.” The Killarney national happens 29 April.
