A win; second & third overall for Coetzee

Cape Town lad Jason Coetzee had a challenging but successful double-header in the opening round of the South African Karting Championships at the Laserfische Raceway in Vereeniging on Monday, when he won the final heat en route to second overall in Junior Max, on top of bagging third overall in Senior Max.

"The day turned out good even though it didn't start all that well,” Jason reflected “We had a few problems in qualifying for Junior Max and then I was taken out at the start of the first race and if that was not bad enough, I was taken out again after my comeback at the end of the race.

“The second heat was much better when I ended up second behind Blaine Rademeyer and it went even better in the final, which I won. “I am very happy with my results considering that first race and now I’m only one point behind in second and we go to my home track next, which is all very positive.

“My Senior Max races were very hard – I was fourth in the first two races, but my kart only came on song at the end – I got up to third and started catching the leaders, but it was too late.

“I was happy with my pace in the Senior Max kart in the end, but I won a Junior race, ended second overall and was third in Senior in a very competitive field.

"Now we head to my home circuit where I'm very fast, so we will see how it goes but I'm feeling very good about it - I will spend a lot of time in the gym and keep my focus for the next Cape regional and then the national – I want to be ready for that!

“As always I would like to thank my trainer Kohen and the Bam family for the support; my family and my awesome team RKT – See you at Killarney!”
