No jokes, just super racing at Killarney

One would expect this Saturday 1 April may be all about mirth and trickery, but rest assured there will be no joking at the third round of the Western Cape Karting Championships where the Province’s top karters will be flat out chasing title glory through a really cool day’s racing at Killarney’s Autumn kart meeting.

Jurie Swart will be after another three wins in the quickest DD2 class aboard his EMR CRG, but Julian van der Watt (Zanardi) has made it known that Umpie is not going to have it all to himself this weekend. CRG quartet Jonathan Thomas (Partners), Andrew Rackstraw, Tristan de Nobrega (RDSA) and Christopher Vrettos are meanwhile all intent to throw a spanner in that works.

Luke Herring (RKT LHR Kosmic) is the man to beat in the open age group Senior Max after adding another three victories to his card last time out and he’ll be double-dangerous this weekend as he smarts over lost opportunity at the recent Vereeniging nationals. Luke will however have his work cut out by hungry class rookie Jason Coetzee (RKT Kosmic), old rival Jurie Swart (EMR CRG), reigning champion Dino Stermin fresh off a victorious national aboard his RHT WOrr Kosmic and rookies Andrew Rackstraw and Reece Oellermann.

Jason Coetzee (RKT Kosmic) intends to maintain his dominant ways in high school Junior Max to maintain his perfect title scorecard so far, but he should have the full attention of Sebastian Boyd (Boyd Boss Kosmic), national overall winner Charl Visser (Charl Electric FA Kart), Simon Simpson-Heath (SAKRA Kosmic), JP Hamman, Nicholas Sage and Tyler Croy to keep him on his Junior toes.

Tate Bishop (TPB Kosmic) starts the primary school Maxterino races as favourite, but he will have his hands full with Troy Dolinschek (Makita Kosmic), national race winner Kyle Visser (Charl Electrical Engineering Zanardi), Jason MacBeath, Reza Levy  and impressive newcomer Dylan Snel, while the SAKRA race within a race will see Lucas Royston, Denis Joubert, Paul Malcolm and Mikhail Fernandez chasing for best overall honours alongside that control engine class win.

Mini Max was all about Kai van Zyl (SAKRA Kosmic) last time out but he’s upset the regular applecart and you can be rest assured of an an epic battle as Joseph Oelz (Kosmic) and Tate Bishop vie to restore the status quo, with Sibo Solomon, Andre Le Riche, Thaqib Meyer and Luke Oellerman all there to pick up any pieces.

Valentino Hoffman (GP Energy FA Kart) dominated the junior primary age Micro Max least time out, but Julius Schwager (Kosmic), Joaquin De Oliveira (ESA Partner FA Kart) Mischa Williams and Reza Levy will all be after his scalp this weekend. Joshua Smit is the kid to beat in the under-8 Cadets with Ethan Deacon, Luan Mostert, Eric Norman, Koorzen and Yusuf Parker all out to do just that.

Isabelle Fowler (Suprocom Tony Kart) made the Cape Clubmans her own last time out but the lads will be out to get her on Saturday and you can expect Jody van Rensburg and Class B runners Mario Ras and Andrew Thomas to be out to stop the Stellenbosch lass, while Kyle Poulter, Terry Watt and Jonathan Gunn will tussle for Class C honours.

Don’t miss the action on Saturday -- Killarney Raceway is on Potsdam Road, Killarney Gardens with the kart track situated across from the main circuit pit complex. Cape kart meets offer a cool atmosphere with entertaining commentary and great grub and drinks at the clubhouse in the pits. Adult entry is R60 per adult, R20 for under-16s and under-12s are free.

See you at the Killarney karts — no jokes!
