But a good weekend for Gunner

Oliver Gunner enjoyed a positive weekend’s karting at the second round of the Northern Regions Karting Championship at Vereeniging’s Laserfiche Raceway, but the Saint Stithians Grade 9 student who races a D’Amico Attorneys Tony Kart feels it could have been an even better day.

“Qualifying fifth was not quite what I was looking for,” Oliver confessed. “But I managed to steal third in heat one, which was my best race of the day, even if my overall pace was not quite what I would have perhaps liked it to be. “It’s also competitive out there so it’s hard work - I ended up fifth in race 2, but the final was better - I had a great start and I was running third, but my pace fell off over the last few laps and I ended up fifth.

“It seems I was sentenced to fifth this weekend because that’s where I ended up in the end, but we had a nice day, so I suppose I’m happy with the result.”

Oliver now prepares for the second round of the South African National Championships in Cape Town Saturday, April 29.
