Van Zijl hits a little racing bad luck

He may have come to Killarney off a few spectacular results, with a dominant win at the last regional and a great second at the nationals up in Gauteng a couple of weeks back, but Lady Luck was busy elsewhere for Kai van Zijl at Saturday’s second round Western Province Karting Championship meeting.

“It was one of those days,” Kai rued. “We suffered failures on both our race engines, which completely threw our day and I ended way off the pace with my old practice engine, which is quite pap. “There was absolutely nothing we could do, other than hang in there, which I managed to do — we scored decent points in all three races so it could have been far worse.

“I hung in to end up fourth in the first and second races and I drove my heart out to grab third in the final. “I just didn’t have the pace and we have to live with that, but I am super excited for the next race — I’m really looking forward to being back up to speed and I want to be stronger than ever for my home national at Killarney at the end of the month!”
