Poles, fastest laps galore for Kyle, Charl,

The Visser brothers Kyle and Charl were right on the pace in Cape Town’s third round Western Province Karting Championship races at Killarney on Saturday and while perhaps the best results evaded them, both lads certainly set the pace in their respective classes.

Kyle (Charl Electrical Engineering Zanardi) struggled in qualifying for the primary school Maxterino races, but he was quickly up from sixth on the grid to second at the end of the first lap before driving home to third. The younger Visser then enjoyed a good dice for the lead with Tate Bishop in race 2 before ending up second, but not before setting the fastest lap to start the final from pole position. He then drove to another strong second to clinch second overall for the day.

“I am happy with today’s result — it was so cool to start the final in pole position and I had a few good dices,” Kyle explained. “It would be good to win a race at home but hopefully we can get that right at the national here at the end of the month — I took a win at Vereeniging so it would be good to win one or two more at last at Killarney!”

Charl (Charl Electrical Engineering FA Kart) was consistently the quickest kid in the high school Junior Max class: “Junior Max is so competitive and the racing is so close, so it’s easy to get into trouble or lose places from behind while fighting for a place in front,” Charl pointed out. “I was a little unlucky today and I am learning fast, but I had three fastest laps and two pole positions today and I am quite proud of that and I only lost third overall by a point, so it was a pretty good day.”

The Vissers from Durbanville have a very busy April ahead as they head up to the second round of the Rok Cup at Vereeniging this weekend before returning to Killarney for the SA National Championships second round at home where Charl leads the Junior Max and Kyle sits second in the Maxterino title chases.
