North, Mokoena, Ngobeni & Parkins win

Saturday’s second round Rok Cup karting series saw competitors gather from around the country at Vereeniging’s Laserfiche raceway for a tight day’s racing in the Gauteng sunshine, with local racers establishing the upper hand on Cape racers following the visitors’ recent winning ways through the Vaal track’s hectic past few weeks.

Northcliff, Johannesburg lad Jordan North put his recent overseas experience to great effect to put his Kosmic on pole position before reeling off three straight MSA Academy race wins aboard his RKT Kosmic, but similarly equipped Cape visitor, Durbanville lad Jason Coetzee minimised his points deficit on the day and consolidated his championship lead with a third race win and a trio of seconds en route to second on the day.

Fellow Durbanville, Cape visitor Charl Visser (Charl Electric FA Kart) also kept the Western Province flag flying in third ahead of Jozi driver Wayland Wyman, PE visitor Joshua Coertze and another Cape lad, JP Hamman, while Nemo Mazwai, Zachary Dufty, Daniele Patrizi and a troubled Kwanda Mokoena rounded out the high school class top ten.

Paulshof lad Mokoena (FA) had no such issues in the primary school Mini Rok, with three wins in the four races however, but he too had his work cut out by a Cape visitor in Kyle Visser, who won the third race en route to second overall aboard his Charl Electric Zanardi. Daniele Patrizi beat the ever-improving Nikolas Roos, Aqil Alibhai and Leyton Fourie to third overall through a fraught afternoon in the all-Gauteng mid-pack, ahead of top-ten finishers Mandla Mlangeni, Michele Patrizi, O’Abile More and Tristan Coertze.

Nteko Ngobeni, Simile Zamxaka and Giovanne Otto shared out the three race wins in the entertaining baby Micro Max battle to finish in that order overall, with Ashton Martin and Kent Swartz with Luviwe Sambudla next up. Nathan Parkins beat Kyle Lawrence, Ryan Maroun, Connor Rogers and Bjorn Roos to Superkart honours and Johan van der Walt won the Rok Warrior gentleman’s class from Maurice Garcia, Black brothers Lionel and Colin, Michael Hawcroft and Kevin Schafer.

The Laserfische Raceway now takes a welcome break following a hectic few weeks of national and regional karting until the next round of the Rok Cup Saturday 6 May.
