Kyle, Charl on Rok Cup podium

Cape Town karting brothers Kyle and Charl Visser returned home with their fair share of the silverware following Saturday’s Rok Cup races at Vereeniging’s Laserfiche Raceway. Younger brother Kyle won a race en route to a strong second in Mini Rok, while Charl Michael fought his way to third in the MSA Academy class.

“I had a good weekend,” Kyle admitted. “But we raced very hard and fair. The first race was a hard fight - Kwanda Mokoena got away and Leyton Fourie, Daniele Patrizi and me fought hard for second - the last lap was wild but I ended up second in a very close finish. “Race 2 was also close but I lost out on lap 10 and ended up fourth.

“I won race 4 - it was a bit lucky because Kwanda had a nose cone penalty, but it was a great race - but not as good as the final, which was fantastic as the four of us diced all the way to the finish - that was a brilliant race. “I am very happy with fourth overall in that company — I am getting stronger every race - thanks so much to the team!”

Elder brother Charl was also happy with his podium reward following another consistent day on the MSA Academy class, which sees drivers drawing their identical engines out of a hat in the interest of closest possible racing. “Wow that was a tough day,” Charl explained.

“There were eight or nine of us within half a second so it was hectic - my first two races were really hard - I had two bad starts, but came back OK. “We worked hard on set-up through the day and the last two races were good and I managed to end up third on the day. “I’m doing OK in the championship too - I'm second in MSA Academy and leading the national Junior Max championship, so it's all pretty good. “Thanks so much to my dad Charl and my mechanic Zefry Ngoben and the team."

The Vissers’ next SA karting appointment is the second round of the SA Rotax Max national championship at home at Killarney, where both brothers are keen to continue the strong start of their national seasons on 29 April.
