Alibhai delivers in the Cape

Ormonde, Johannesburg primary school kart racer Aqil Alibhai came back from Cape Town in a stronger third position in the South African Mini Rok 60cc championships following a strong weekend at the Killarney Kart track. Alibhai who fought hard among the leaders all weekend emerged a very close fourth overall to consolidate his championship charge.

“We had good pace right through this weekend and our objective was to finish in the top six,” Aqil, 11 explained. “The fight was on throughout each of the races — we were chopping and changing throughout those two races and I never stayed in one place for more than two laps - it really was great racing!

I ended up finishing fifth in both the opening heats, but I put my head down in the final and fought them off for second. “It was awesome placing 4th overall with SA’s top drivers and great to race so hard all weekend — thanks so much to my dad and the team, to my rivals and everyone at the races!”
