Mostert delighted with pace despite drama

Little Luan Mostert may not quite have managed the results he set out to achieve in the fourth round of the Killarney Cadet Karting Championships over the weekend, but the Bastion Primary Grade 1 kid did enough to earn the coveted Kito Kup for driver of the day in the under-8 year old karting creche.

“Who would have thought the day we don’t even finish the last 2 races would be the day we would go home with the biggest smiles,” Luan grinned. “I came third in Race 1 and I kept up with Reese Koorzen and Joshua Smit - the fastest guys in the class — I was so happy with that! “Then I was leading for a bit in both race 2 and race 3, but my engine broke in both those heats, so I couldn’t finish.

“It was still a good day — I did my personal best time of 35.64 seconds, which is just 2 tenths slower than the new lap record — congratulations to Joshua Smit for that new lap record of 35.44. “I’d also like to welcome the two new cadets, Tahir Abrahams and Yusuf Parker to the class and I look forward to racing with them for a long time to come! “Now I’m enjoying a nice long break before our fifth Regional on 22 July.”
