Zwartkops progress, drama for Napier

Karting lass Tiffany Napier continues to smile in the face of adversity following another tough weekend at the fourth round Northern Regions Junior Max Karting Championship races at Zwartkops. The Roodepoort teenager showed great promise once again in qualifying and the opening two races, but Lady Luck was elsewhere indisposed for her in the final.

“I was happy with my solid races in heats one and two, where I finished sixth in both heats after qualifying sixth,” Tiffany explained. “The racing was tough but I worked my plan to drive to the best of my ability but without the pressure of having to do well in the championship because a good result is well out of reach now, but BirelART SA and Neil Basilio Racing’s The equipment have proved their worth as I was right on pace, so it was all pretty good up to there.

“Then disaster struck on the second lap of the third heat when I suffered brake failure through the very fast double left going onto the main straight, which saw me in a high speed collision with the tyre wall.” Tiffany was fortunate to emerge unscathed except for a few bumps and bruises — her kart was damaged but it is repairable.

‘Going forward I will test and do a KZN regional race in iDube in two weeks time in preparation for the upcoming National event there in July — my Birel chassis traditionally does well at iDube so I’m looking forward to racing on a track every karter loves racing.”
