Difficult day for Coetzee at iDube

Cape Town kart racer Jason Coetzee endured a tough day at the third round of the South African National Karting Championships at iDube in the KZN Midlands on Saturday. The Durbanville lad however remains ahead in the Junior Max title chase and a very close third in the Senior Max championship in spite of his challenges and five fourth-positions on the day.

“Yeah, that was a bad day,” RKT Kosmic driver Jason confessed. “I seem to have got stuck with fourth place in Natal - fourth in all three Junior races and fourth overall in both Junior and Senior for the day is three positions away from where we need to be!” It wasn’t all that simple a weekend either - Jason had to fight back in the final Junior race after dropping as low as 10th when caught up in a wild 10-kart midfield fracas early in that race.

Jason’s Senior Max weekend started well with pole position before he led the race for five laps before being drawn into a dice for the lead in which he passed Daniel Duminy to reclaim second on the last lap. Jason ran second for most of the second heat before a wild wrought over the last two laps saw him shuffled down to seventh amid some robust driving and then another midfield battle to finish sixth in the final and ended up - you guessed it — fourth overall!

As always I would like to thank my parents, my team, RKT and everyone who always makes it happen,” Jason concluded. “This may have been a tough one but it makes me stronger and I will be back!” That starts Saturday 22 July when Jason returns to their Western Cape Junior and Senior Max duty at Killarney.
