Sebastian makes Junior Max his own

Sebastian Boyd was the man to beat at the third round of the South African National Junior Max karting championships at iDube in the KZN Midlands on Saturday. The Camps Bay lad put his Boyd Boss Freight Kosmic on pole position before taking two wins and a third in the races to take overall honours for the day.

“That was a good weekend,” Sebastian admitted. “We were right on the pace throughout practice and I was very happy to put it on pole position. “The first race was a bit more of a challenge and I had to fight off local driver Dominic Lincoln and my Cape rivals Charl Visser and Jason Coetzee — that was a good one but I held on to win with the four of us within 0.6 seconds at the flag.

“Dominic got the jump in race 2 and the rest of us were fighting so he got away and I managed to get third in the end, so we did some changes to the kart and the final was great.” Sebastian then moved into the lead on the first lap of the final and quickly cleared off to score another dominant win as he left a dramatic fight in his wake.

“I have to thank my team — my dad and my mentor Luke Herring, who also had a good day to win Senior Max — and the RKT team for all the effort — we race together and we win together — thank you guys!”

It's the home front  next for Sebastian when he returns to Killarney to fight for the Western Cape Junior Max championship Saturday 22 July.
