Gunner takes Senior Max win

Saturday was a day to remember for Bryanston kart racer Oliver Gunner, who took a maiden overall Senior Max win aboard his D’Amico Attorneys' TonyKart at the Laserfiche Raceway’s fifth round Northern Regions Karting Championship races. The Saint Stithians School Grade 10 student won the opening two races before coming home second in the final to clinch win of the day and move into championship contention with three rounds left to race.

“Today was one of the best races of my life so far,” an ecstatic Oliver admitted. “My kart and my team just came together and we were so fast - that is only thanks to all the hard work behind the scenes and for that I can only thank my team, Xtreme racing, Leeroy Poulter, my amazing spanner man Lyle Poulter and our engine guru Mark Williams for the hard work and especially my mom for all the backing, love and support that has made this possible.”

Oliver now has a two-week gap before a big double-race weekend with the sixth round regionals on Saturday and the African Open on Sunday, both at Zwartkops 19-20 August. “There’s a Senior Max World Final seat up for grabs at the Open,” Oliver concluded. “I’m in a good place to steal it — bring it on!”
