The Pepson Plastics Husqvarna South Africa Enduro Team heads to Lesotho’s season finale with a most exciting rider in place of the injured Henco Botha Saturday 30 September-1 October. Among the world’s leading lady hard enduro riders, Spanish lass Sandra Gomes brings a splendid twist to the double header event.

“Pepson Plastics Husqvarna is delighted to confirm that Spain’s Sandra Gomez will be riding with us in the final rounds of the Liquorland South African Enduro Championship at the Lesotho double-header this weekend,” Husqvarna South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham confirmed. “Sandra is a most accomplished rider who brings a wealth of experience — and glamour to the team and we are looking forward to a great weekend with Sandra and our own international star, Brett Swanepoel in Lesotho.”

Gomes joins Husqvana’s South African international Brett Swanepoel on the team this weekend to bring a most exciting twist to the end of the 2017 Liquorland SA Enduro Championship as she prepares for the ultimate Roof of Africa later in the year. 2016 FIM Women’s SuperEnduro World Cup winner, 2015 AMA EnduroCross Cup winner, 2014 Spanish Trials champion and multiple X Games medalist, Gomez came into extreme enduro out of foot-ups.

“2017 is only my second year in Hard Enduro and I’m extremely happy with my results so far,” Sandra explained. “The Roof of Africa is one of the ultimate hard enduros and I am delighted to be able to come to Lesotho for the final rounds of the South African championships this weekend to prepare for my first attempt of the Roof later in the year — I can’t wait to race with the South African Husqvarna team!”

Brett Swanepoel had a difficult start to his enduro season, missing the first race to injury and then retiring from round 2, but he’s been right on it ever since. “We started on the back foot, but it’s been a blast to cut through the championship table from the bottom,” Brett smiled. “Now let’s see how far I can claw back over the double-header this weekend — my Pepson Plastics Husqvarna is ready for action and we have a most attractive teammate this weekend, so I cannot wait to get to the mountains!”

“We are very happy with the team’s performance so far this year,” team patron Iain Pepper added. “Brett has bounced back very well after his pre season injury and I am expecting him to stand on the podium on both days. “It’s a big pity about Henco out with shoulder injury, but we are very happy and looking forward to the new team recruit in the form of Sandra Gomez — she will be using this event as a warm up to the Roof and we can’t wait to see her progress at the front end of the ladies on her Pepson Plastics Husqvarna.”

The Lesotho double header runs out of Thaba Bosiu with separate 35km regularity routes for Friday and Saturday and Enduro and Special Tests at the Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village Headquarters. Friday’s Extreme will be up the notorious Seamus’ Slide while Saturday’s goes up Handlebar Hill.
