Charl second, Kyle fifth in SA nationals

The Visser karting brothers from Durbanville, Cape Town, Charl Micheal and Kyle wrapped up their respective South African Rotax Max Karting Championships in style at Zwartkops in Pretoria West over the weekend. 13-year old Charl Michael delivered a pair of wins to end up second on the day by a solitary point as he also moved up to finish second in his rookie yearn of the SA Junior Max Championship, while Kyle fought hard to fifth on the day to clinch fifth in the Maxterino championship, also in his rookie year in that class.

“That was one of my best karting days ever,” an elated Charl Electric FA Kart driver Charl Michael beamed. “I missed the win for day by a point after two wins and two fastest laps, but I fought hard all day and that moved me up to second in the championship. “My kart was quick all day thanks my dad, our race engineer Zefrey Ngoben and the team — especially my mom for helping me keep focussed all the time. “That was a brilliant to end the national season!”

Charl puts his rapid progress in the Junior kart down to his international experience this year. “Driving for South Africa in the CIK-FIA Academy Championship taught us so much, Charl explained. “It is so competitive there with 50 karts driven by the best drivers from all countries and it is very hard racing, which has made me far stronger in every way of my driving and my approach.”

Kid brother Kyle Visser had a tougher day at the office in the primary school Maxterino 60cc class on Saturday fighting his Charl Electric Zanardi to a double fifth on the day. “We had a few issues with the kart early on, but it was very quick at the end of the day,” Kyle admitted. “We ended up fifth for the day and fifth overall in the SA championships in my rookie year, so I am very happy — thanks to my dad and Zefrey for all the hard work - it’s paying off for sure!”

The Visser brothers now focus on the Rok International Karting Finals in Italy 11-14 October, competing in the Winter Cup at the same South Garda Karting Circuit the week before. Kyle earned his ticket to represent South Africa in the Mini Rok International Final by winning the South African Under-10 Mini Rok championship, while Charl will compete in the Junior Rok International Final.
