Camps Bay Cape Town karting lad Sebastian Boyd put the cap on a brilliant SA national racing year to clinch the high school South African Junior Max Championship with victory at the final round at the Zwartkops Kart Raceway outside Pretoria on Sunday. SACS College Grade 9 scholar Boyd put his Boyd Boss Freight Kosmic on pole position and went on to win the opening race, before going on to clinch the title as he held his closest championship rivals off to score a great defensive win in the final of four races. 

“This has been an incredible national season,” a delighted Sebastian admitted. “All the time, all the preparation and every team effort has paid off —I have had to be on my A Game racing against my good friend Jason, not to mention little Charl Visser, who gave us all a serious wake up call in the finals. “Well done to both of them and to Les and Luke Herring who have not only played such an important part in my karting achievements, but Luke also won the SA Senior Max title on Sunday — I am truly grateful for all their efforts.

“My overseas exposure, racing in Europe thanks to Ettiene Roos has definitely been another major factor, so again without RKT and my dad none of this will be possible — I have a lot of people to thank for this title — it never came easy, but boy, it was worth it!” Sebastian now heads back overseas for both the Junior Rok International Cup in Italy 11-14 October and then for the Rotax Junior Max World Final where he will represent South Africa as reward for his SA championship victory 4-11 November.

“I’m really looking forward to Italy for the Rok Finals and then of course to the Rotax Max World Finals in Portugal — special thanks to my school, SACS College for making it possible to race while still completing my academic syllabus. “It’s going to be a hectic couple of months, but we can’t wait!”
